DERMATOLOGY SERVICES
We offer a full line of dermatology services which include the following:

ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT THERAPY (including Narrow Band UVB)
Therapy is available for our patients suffering from psoriasis and some other skin conditions.

SKIN CANCER SCREENING
We recommend full body skin exams for all individuals. We recommend patients with a history of skin cancer have a full body skin exam yearly.

MOLE MAPPING
We will be offering full body photography with a state of the art process using the FotoFinder digital imager. We are the only dermatology office in the Mid West using this technology to monitor moles for changes and to monitor skin for new moles. This is especially important in all patients with previous skin cancer, specifically malignant melanoma. Malignant melanoma is the most deadly of all the skin cancers.

CHEMICAL PEELS
Chemical peels are the use of fruit acids to rejuvenate aged and tired skin. They also can be used for medical purposes such as treatment of acne, actinic keratosis, and melasma (the mask of pregnancy). Multiple types of peels are available at Sunflower Dermatology and Day Spa.

BOTOX
Botox is a treatment for wrinkling of the frown muscles, the forehead lines and the small lines on the side of the eyes. Botox temporarily relaxes the muscles associated with facial expressions. This procedure is the number one cosmetic procedure throughout the world.

The physician performs the treatment in the office. Injections are given into the muscles. They are slightly uncomfortable-producing some stinging, but they are not usually considered painful. Some bruising may result. Results are visible a few days after the injections-reaching maximum effectiveness by 7-10 days. The effect lasts for approximately 3-4 months. The facial appearance is improved by a decrease in wrinkle lines and for patients who have a scowling expression, a decrease of this effect. Some patients may feel that their face is less expressive after treatment. Botox is one of the most effective treatments for wrinkling and lines of the upper face.

COSMETIC FILLERS
Dr. Matthys provides expertise in the area of cosmetic fillers such as Radiesse, Restylane and Juvederm. These products are used to "fill in" wrinkles, improve acne scarring, and aid in lip augmentation. These services are individualized for each patient.

MICRODERMABRASION
Microdermabrasion, typically done in a series of 5, is used as an individualized alternative to chemical peels. The procedure uses a DiamondTome Wand and removes the upper layer of skin by gently exfoliating with natural diamond chips, while at the same time vacuuming the skin cells away in a sterile and controlled manner. Removing this outer layer of skin cells leaves a smoother texture and promotes the growth of new and healthier skin cells.

This procedure can be used alone or in conjunction with any other skin care regimen. This process improves pore size, fine lines and wrinkles. In addition to facial rejuvenation, this procedure can be performed to help acne and irregular pigmentation on all parts of the body.

Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy involves the injection of a salt solution into spider veins. The treatment is typically done on the legs, but can be done elsewhere. Prior to treatment, a patient must not be "tan" due to decreased visibility of the veins. Some patients experience a slight burning sensation upon injection.

The patient will need multiple treatments (4-6) in order to achieve between 60-80% improvement of the spider veins. Side effects include pigmentation around the injection sites, telangiectatic matting, and, rarely, non-healing sores at the injection site.

Dermatologic Surgery
