IPL Photofacials: Reduce Unwanted Brown Spots, Sun Damage and Redness

What is IPL treatment?

Intense pulsed light (IPL) is a technology used by cosmetic and medical practitioners to perform various skin treatments for aesthetic and therapeutic purposes. You may have also heard these treatments referred to as photorejuvenation or photofacials.

IPL is a non-surgical treatment that will improve your skin’s appearance quickly and easily. This advanced light-based technology clears undesirable issues to reveal clearer skin.

How does it work?

With IPL treatment, specialized pulses are used to target brown spots, sun damage, and vessels without harming the surrounding skin. The light delivered to your skin causes them to slowly disappear through your body’s natural healing process.

IPL laser treatment is most commonly used to treat skin issues such as:

  • Freckles
  • Spider veins
  • Broken capillaries (blood vessels)
  • Rosacea
  • Sun damage or sun spots
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Fine lines

The treatment usually takes between 30-90 minutes, depending on what area needs to be treated and the practitioner’s experience level. Scheduling an IPL treatment with our Kansas City licensed aestheticians will ensure the safest and most efficient treatment possible.

What results can I expect?

After IPL treatment, you should expect to see a decrease in the appearance of brown spots, sun damage, and vessels for a more even skin tone.

How many IPL treatments does it take to see results?

Most people need between 3-5 treatments, with one treatment per month, for their desired results. We will work with you to create a treatment plan that’s personalized to your lifestyle and needs.

What is the downtime?

The downtime depends on what issues you’re targeting with your treatment.

If you’re treating redness with IPL face treatment, your skin will look slightly redder for two to five days. Makeup can be used starting right after the treatment, as long as it is applied and removed very gently. On rare occasions, there may be bruising that can take 1-2 weeks to resolve.

For sunspot removal or dark spot treatment, your spots will generally look darker for 3-7 days. Crusting can occur, which may last up to 10 days. The lesions will then begin to clear and will generally be resolving at one month. When it comes to how many IPL treatments it takes for brown spots, remember that it takes an average of 3-5 treatments to clear age spots.
