What is the VISIA Skin Analysis System?

The VISIA Skin Analysis System is a highly advanced imaging system that provides an easy-to-understand, objective evaluation of our clients’ skin. The analysis reveals potential areas of concern that the client may have in real time with great specificity. Our staff utilizes these results to help our clientele select the best treatments, skin care regimens, and skin care products to treat their unique concerns. VISIA empowers clients to care for their skin in a proactive way by addressing the earliest signs of skin changes.

The images and printed report are used as a guide to help you achieve healthier, younger-looking and more beautiful skin. Repeat scan by the VISIA system can help you track you skin care progress overtime.

What Does the VISIA Skin Analysis Look For?

The VISIA Skin Analysis non-invasively scans a client’s face to obtain both 2-D and 3-D images. The scan evaluates the sub-surface layer of the skin for several conditions. VISIA Skin Analysis scans facial skin for eight areas of concern. These include the following:

Spots: Spots are discolored areas on the skin that vary from a person’s normal skin tone. They can appear as result of freckles, acne, hyperpigmentation, or even skin cancer. Spots are identified visually with a turquoise highlight in the analysis photo.

Wrinkles: Wrinkles are caused as the skin loses elasticity, and loses the ability to bounce back after repetitive facial movements. These folds in the skin can be caused by many different causes including smoking, chronic dehydration, but the largest culprit is overexposure to ultraviolet light. VISIA Skin Analysis identifies wrinkles with green highlights.

Texture: In this context, the VISIA Skin Analysis evaluates the skin surface’s overall smoothness. Differences in the surface are revealed on the evaluation picture with blue coloration identifying indentations or valleys in the surface, and yellow coloration revealing abnormal peaks. A 3-dimesional model of the skin can be displayed post picture to allow the client to see how rough or smooth their skin is on the surface.

Pores: Pores are openings in the skin for hair follicles to protrude from. VISIA system identifies them as shadows against the surrounding skin tone. Their smaller size differentiates them from spots. Overlarge pores are displayed by purple highlights in the VISIA analysis picture.

Ultraviolet (UV) Spots: VISIA Skin Analysis uses a special ultraviolet light to scan the subdermal layer of skin for concentrated areas of melanin. UV spots cannot be detected by the naked eye. The VISIA system displays UV spots by using yellow highlights against black and white negative of the skin.

Brown Spots: When there is a surplus of melanin produced by melanocytes in the skin brown spots occur. They can appear as freckles, areas of hyperpigmentation, lentigines, and melasma. The VISIA system identifies them as yellow highlights against an orange and white background display of the skin.

Red Areas: There are many conditions that red areas can represent. Some of the conditions that the VISIA system can reveal with setting are acne, rosacea, spider veins, or general inflammation. The VISIA system reveal read areas as blue highlights against a red and white background of the skin.

Porphyrins: Bacterial emissions that can clog pores are porphyrins. Porphyrins can cause the skin to develop acne. The VISIA system reveal these areas as yellow highlight against a black and blue background of the skin.

Real Age vs. Skin Age

One of the revolutionary features that VISIA Skin Analysis System uses the TruSkin Age® to evaluate our clientele’s overall skin condition and “estimated skin age.” The VISIA system reveals the clients actual age against the age that skin appears. For instance, a thirty-year-old client can appear to have thirty-five-year-old skin and vice versa.

Once more, given the areas of concern that a client may have, the VISIA system aging simulator can actually project how their skin will appear as they age. The staff at Epiphany Dermatology can also project the results of age simulator when optimal skin care is achieved. The visual result can sometimes be quite dramatic. Clients see the potential to impact their health with an individualized, skin care plan. The comparison images from VISIA can provide a call to action to maintain, and sometimes, improve a client’s skin care.
