Keep Calm and Love Your SkinConversation candy hearts, boxes of chocolate and Cupid’s bow. What could be more quintessential for Valentine’s Day? When it comes to matters of the heart there are few who are more qualified for the job than the winged boy with a quiver of arrows. As a man about town, Cupid was known by many names including Eros by the Greeks and Cupid by the Romans. Depending on the mythology that you follow, Cupid/Eros was the offspring of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty to the Greeks, or son of Venus the goddess of love, sex and fertility to the Romans.

By either name Cupid was known for his mischievous antics which included shooting arrows of desire and other emotions at both the mortals and the Gods. When Cupid himself fell under a love spell it was to a mortal named Psyche. Here the path to love became a little complicated.

No Look, nor Touch
As a mere mortal, Psyche was not allowed to look upon her love directly. Yet temptation proved too great and when she risked the fateful glance, she was banished from his presence. In punishment for dishonoring a god, Psyche was tasked with fulfilling a series of increasingly dangerous tasks by Venus, Cupid’s mother. The final task led Psyche into the underworld to obtain some of the Imprisoned Treasure of Divine Beauty. Although warned to not open the jar, Psyche was again tempted, filled with the desire to obtain the Divine Beauty for herself. Instead of beauty, Psyche found herself filled with the Sleep of Innermost Darkness. Imprisoned by her actions, Psyche lay in slumber until she was found by her love Cupid. Using his powers, Cupid awoke her with a kiss and a touch of his arrows. Inspired by her unending love, Psyche was changed from mortal into goddess.

A Look can lead to a Touch
As mere mortals, we know that the spark of attraction is never as complicated as waiting for Cupid’s arrow. The laws of attraction often start with something as simple as a look or touch. When this element of attraction occurs, it’s important to be ready with skin that’s been cared for and nourished from the inside with a healthy diet and sleep as well as on the outside with protection from the ravages of extreme weather and sun damage.
